EDI 204 Motor Carrier Load Tender
The EDI 204 transaction set is an electronic version of a paper Motor Carrier Load Tender that complies with the ANSI X12 EDI specifications. The EDI 204 Motor Carrier Load Tender transaction set communicates a request to a full truckload carrier for the movement of a shipment. The EDI 204 can be used to create a new shipment, update a shipment, replace a shipment or cancel a shipment. The EDI 204 document is generally sent from manufacturers, distribution centres, or retailers to the carrier. However, it can be used by any company that is interested in having goods shipped. This EDI transaction is not used for shipments that are less than a full truckload. The Motor Carrier Load Tender will provide sufficient information for the carrier to understand the requirements of the shipment and their associated costs. The carrier can then determine whether they want to accept the load. An EDI 204 document is transmitted by the shipper to the transportation provider/carrier. In return, the carrier issues a 990 EDI transaction in response to a Load Tender. This transaction indicates whether the carrier is accepting or declining the shipment.
