EDI 852 Product Activity Data

The EDI 852 transaction set is an electronic version of a paper Product Activity Data that complies with the ANSI X12 EDI specification. The 852 EDI transaction set can be used by a distributor, warehouse, or retailer to advise a trading partner with product SKU activity data like inventory level, sales rates, and other product activity information. This transaction set enables a trading partner to plan, ship and set re-order and stocking levels distribution centres, warehouses or retail outlets. It can be sent out to trading partners in the case of a chain, at regular intervals or after a major change in inventory outside of usual scheduling.

Suppliers and retailers work together to make sure that the POS data is being used to its full potential. Stock outs can be prevented. Suppliers can suggest orders to retailers who may be running low on the product that their customers want the most. The EDI 852 transaction can be used for VMI relationships so the supplier is responsible for monitoring inventory levels and then replenishing product without prompting by the retailer.
